When you are accessing Turnitin through Blackboard you are not asked to sign in with your username and password like you do when you access Blackboard. Instead Turnitin requests login info from Blackboard to verify who you are.
However if cross-site tracking is blocked in your browser settings this login info is not allowed to be sent, causing the Invalid or Missing State error message.
Quick Fix (enable cross-site tracking):
In order to fix the issue you will need to unblock cross-site tracking(cookies) in your browser. For guidance on how to do so, please go to our article on How to disable or enable cookies in your browser and under Enable or disable cross-site tracking, select your browser.
If you still have problems try the following:
In case the Quick Fix didn’t resolve the issue, here’s a list of additional things to try:
- Confirm that cross-site tracking is unblocked and that you have refreshed your browser after changing the settings.
- Use a different browser (Chrome, Firefox or Edge) but be sure to check the cross-site tracking settings again for this browser.
- Turn off any of the following if it applies to you:
- VPN
- Ad-blocker
- 3rd party antivirus (Norton 360, McAfee, BitDefender etc.)
- Ensure you are navigating to Turnitin by selecting a link in Blackboard and not using a saved bookmark in your browser to take you straight to Turnitin.
