What is a preferred name and where is it displayed?
You can set a preferred name to display in some University systems, including Blackboard and Teams. For example, if William Smith (ws1a12) is your default display name, a preferred name could be used, such as Will Smith (ws1a12)
Your default name is taken from your official University record. So if it is not correct then you need to contact Human Resources (for staff) or your Faculty Office (for students) to get it changed.
- Students can set a preferred first name.
- Staff and PGR students can also set a preferred first name and last name.
How to set your preferred name
- Folow the link above to Subscribe
- Select Sign in to manage your existing account.
- Select Your preferred name and add an alternative to your default name.
By the following morning, your record will have been updated in Blackboard and Teams.
